For families who have embarked on building and nurturing a winery or wine label, the spirit of their project is often both difficult to share and daunting to communicate. You are making and selling wine, you have a wine style you like, you have forged a brand identity, and perhaps you have a roadmap for the next decade. Yet until you have asked yourself, “What is the very essence of what I am doing?”—and until you and your staff are able to express that essence authentically in every task, every interaction, every sentence that you write or speak—these activities will rarely fall harmoniously into line.
We can certainly start with a phone conference, but an initial visit to your property (or the facility making your wine) brings me closer to you and your business. This initial visit is always without charge. I will ask to see the facilities you use for winemaking and, if at all possible, the vineyards you own or source from. It’s very helpful to taste your wines. Soon after the visit, I will propose a plan of how I might be of help to you and how we might work together.
I’ve drawn inspiration in business especially from the writings of Jim Collins, Peter Senge and David Rock. Collins argues persuasively and convincingly that an entrepreneur—assuming he or she has a defining vision—must not only vigorously preserve the central core of that vision, but stimulate progress at the same time, recognizing the value of thoughtful, timely change.
As a leader of a company, you’ve got many things you have to do well. I hope I can be of help to you, your family and your staff.
